Chevette Register

(1/5) > >>

Ashley:
Just been on the KaddetC forum and noticed that they have a Register section, where owners can register there cars information.

Just wondering is it possible for us to set something similar up, and try and keep a track of what Chevettes & Chevannes are left on the roads and condition they are in and there location.

If we had it as open content then members and non member would be able to register there cars information, and also any other chevette they discover which they dont own ie has been found in a barn after 20 odd years etc.

Maybe even extend it as far as Chevettes we scrap or find in scrapyards, just so we can keep a track of cars  ???

Maybe open content wouldnt be suitable for information such as Reg no and Vin no's....but im sure there would be someway round it :-\

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

That's not a bad idea Ashley, it would never be complete as some people have an issue posting vehicle details on the net (as well as those with no access to the net), added to the fact that there are a hell of a lot on the Chevettes.com, DSG, Totalopel, VODC, MIG, VXON etc that you never see on here. The other complication is the sheer number of the cars that were built for the UK and other markets, as well as the fact that there are numerous cars in Northern Ireland that are not listed with either the DVLA or DVLNI and hence are in limbo . . . .  but as a starting point and if we're not looking to create a definative listing it would be a good idea. I'd suggest five headings i.e. 2 door saloon, 4 door saloon, hatch, estate and Chevanne, and then split it by the model variants in each section i.e. 3 door hatch E, ES, L, GL, GLS, HS, HSR AND Special Editions to cover things like Sun Hatch, Silhouette, Black Pearl and other dealer specials. and a motorsport section for rally/track and race cars.  ;D I'd stick my hand up for helping to set it up if people think its a good idea and John needs a hand.

Cheers Mal

I like the idea  :cog: I would also help moderate if needed  ;) im sure a man of Johns wizardry wont need help setting up the register section we could just add another discussion section in the forum  :)

I was thinking of making just UK and Ireland. As, like you say trying to trace all cars would be impossible.  As regarding all the cars on other forums and clubs, perhaps if we just put a post on there sites for them to provide info, and people who dont internet access in the club just do a mail drop and get them to phone or write back with their info.

Initially may be woth contacting cclassic car mags and papers for them to ut an article in them ???  After a few people start providing info, then maybe word of mouth will help it to grow and expand.

As regarding making it, would an adobe pdf file be best, which one or 2 people have access to for adding and changing details, that way information cant be tamperred with.

I will be more than happy to devote time to this project....seems as it was my idea :cog:

Tis a good idea. Will a section on the forum suffice? What's the set up on the Opel site?
