General servicing questions

(1/1)

gwh18:
Hi folks, been a while since I posted due to circumstances probably suited for the introduce yourself forum. Jeez oh things have changed in the forum since my last visit, lot more engine and general modding going on, which makes me feel a bit daft about my questions, nut I suppose there always room for a Muppet's question if only foe the humour value :D I should say the engine is standard 1256. Anyway here goes, As the Chevette had been laid up for a couple of years in the garage (had been getting started and driven a round for a bit every so often) I thought it was time to get started for my hopes of a summer MOT. The brakes need sorted, and there a small hole in an outer sill, so I thought I would start with a general servicing, so here come the daft questions, What size socket do you need for the sump plug? I can't seem to get enough purchase on the plug and the sump pan seems to flex quite badly when I try to move it. Where is the drain plug on the block? I'm looking on the right hand side but can't seem to see even from underneath or with a torch, I know I'm being stupid but if anyone can direct me with relation to some other engine ancillary? I warned you the questions may seem daft, but I'm looking forward to learning. Thank folks

The Flying Doctor:
Hi  if your looking for the plug to drain the water from the block    look on the block just behind the alternator   1/2 inch i think

Ian ;D

Ashley:
Cant remember the sump plug size, but mine does have a tendancy fo flex when undoing.  That said never had any problems getting it out though  :D

MRNICK:
HI my sump did the same when i dumped the oil out of it but it had sat for 17 years plug size on mine was 25mm or 1 inch think there a standard size might be an idea to get the engine warm first this might help if its a bit tight good luck mate.
