Now i know most of us chevette owners love the fact that they are rear wheel drive,,,but while sat having to watch eastenders i started pondering,,has any one ever tried to convert a chevette to front wheel drive,,,can it be done,,,,has it been done,  would love to know, what are your thoughts.     no swearing please lol

Why in the name of retro cars would you want to convert a Chevette to a FWD  ??? Please just go and sit in the corner now and count to 100  :(

I believe it has been done with an Astra 1.6 engine box and front suspension. Cant remember where I saw it but I thought why bother!

I've seen it done before, mk1 Astra GTE engine and box, involved a bit of fabrication for the gearbox mounts and the inner wings cut for the driveshafts, and it had complete FWD Astra suspension/steering etc. The guy that did it said he thought it was easier and a more modern alternative than upgrading the RWD setup, he did say however that he was now considering the 4wd Cav set up for the driveline, I thought about it with a Nova GTE, but in terms of handling/character/ and good old Oversteer there didn't seem to be any real benefit.
