unread posts link
« on: Dec 16, 2014, 22:36:03 »
every time I come on the forum I have to trawl through the main menu and look for new posts, If I hit the "show unread posts since last visit" there is never anything there, and it doesnt matter if I'm on my laptop, my work laptop or my phone . . the same applies . . and it makes the forum a pain in the arse to be honest.

most odd .. it works fine here with the odd blip where 1 or 2 posts may not show  , i wonder what is causing this for you guys?

I will see if others are suffering this too or whether it is unique to you two as nobody else has complained as yet :)

the way it knows if you have new posts since you last visited relates to cookies and the session length.

ensure you allow browser cookies for chevetteownersgroup.co.uk as it stores your session info in one , if you use www. then try it without the www.

another thing is to change your session length by logging out of the main page (not forum) and re-logging in and setting a different session length.   I am sure i set mine for "forever" ?

the "unread posts" feature has been buggy for over 10 years apparently but only missing the odd new post or some new posts if you haven't been on for some time.

finally you can also click the "show all unread posts" link that is available when "show unread since" comes back with no results.

hope that helps :)

Historically I've always been logged in "forever", but since the changes I often get the log in page and have to log back in . . .

try logging out from the site completely , then re-log in using "forever" as the time limit.  check you allow cookies for the site too in your browser as it needs them apparently.

that may fix it?

@Bill  . . I'm now using an iPad to access the forum, but still getting kicked out despite logging in forever, and even more annoyingly I'm viewing posts and not being given a "reply" button so the only way I can reply is to hit the "quote" button . . Any suggestions?

hmmm

most odd as i don't know of anybody else with missing reply buttons and suffering log in time issues  :( . On the Ipad you could try using another browser other than safari?  Firefox is a good cross platform one that works fine here on the forum etc..

Does this do this on your home connection only, or wherever you are connected? and does it do it on other devices you log in on?

i'll poke around inside to see if i can see anything odd with your account.

I had lost the reply button on my iPhone the other day for about 3/4 days.  Then at the start of the new year it came back, must have been having Christmas off  :))

If I choose the log in forever option on my laptop I still have to log in each time I visit the site.  However on iPhone it just stays logged in.

Hi,

you may need to set your browser or AV software to accept cookies from the site Ashley on your laptop?

The Iphone/Ipad thing seems to be some bug with Safari *shock* , it is still a pretty awful browser tbh but Apple will not let others onboard it seems on the ipad/iphone.
