Any help with a slack gear selector

(1/2) > >>

russboy:
I'm getting my chevette ready for its 1st mot in years but the gear selector is really "loose", slack is a better word really. Any ideas on how I can remedy the problem or what needs to done or bought?

Ashley:
Is gear selection difficult, particularly 1st and reverse?  If so it could be down to this being worn or broken.

I s that part on the gear boxes with & without the adjuster & can it be replaced through the selector hole or do you have to remove the small rear cover. It sounds like that is exactly the problem I have (1st & reverse )

VanneVette:
Early boxes don't have the plastic clip, only the late boxes so i found out when i got a box recon. I have replace the plastic clip through the gear lever hole with long nose pliers on my van, but its a fiddly job.

Ashley:
It can be done through the selector hole, but as @VanneVette says it's a bit fiddly
